Had to kill the installer. It brought up the need to install DirectPlay but I could not get to it to tell it OK. ALT+TAB did nothing.

So I killed it. Found something online about having to start Origin as Administrator... So closed Origin from TaskBar and restarted as Administrator... Got further and was able to start the game but got an error enabling PunkBuster. It said to download the latest patch? WTF! :D

Went into Origin right-clicked on BF42 and told it to update. Ok... Updated...

UGH... Still got PB error when trying to select the checkbox...

Started BF1942 as Administrator... Still error...

    Looked in BF42 directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 1942) no PB directory.

OK... More searching and found this:
    http://forums.gameservers.com/viewtopic.php?t=40564

    Downloaded this:
    http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

OK... BF1942 no longer supported... Frick!
There is supposedly a download for another update from here
    http://www.tankpanzer.com/downloads/BF42/TanksPBupdate.exe
But the site is gone. :(
Found another site with the download... I'll upload all these files for download after I get it working. :)

Still researching. Will edit this post when I have more.

Ok... Seems most server don't even have PB turned on. I found a few other things but I am guessing because PB just isn't supported anymore it just can't be used...

    I played a bit. Wow...

I used Windows 7 VM to get it working, some weird quirks appear on Windows 8.x especially when running the mods.

Try looking over at pixel-fighter.com , they have a support area for most problems with W7 or W8 combined with playing BF42/ FH.
Last server alive i believe for FH and they have a toolbox that contains all you need for download etc., you can join their server through it as well since gamespy is gone soon.

Well there is no mention of EA doing anything for BF42 , just states that it will include Bf2142 and BF2 for example.

Pixel-fighter keeps making new maps and stretch the engine of BF42 , they did a lot with atmosphere for example.
Latest development i saw was that they were transfering BF42 to a crytek engine and with it FH, the people over at Pixel-fighter were cooperating with that mod team i believe.

I heard some popular mod groups are moving their mods to CryEngine 3, Unreal Engine 4 and Unity3D to make them free or paid stand-alone games.
