If your other components are not bottle necking you, buckle up you will be in for a nice ride with the enhanced speed.

I've been running resource monitor with a lot of the games I am playing and usually always seem my disk queue length go to 5 and sometimes a little higher. Anything over 1 is bad.

I really want to switch over to SSDs, I think. I run a lot more programs than the average person, repeatedly install and uninstall various large programs or other big files depending on what I am working on, just trying to not go much over half of my hard drive space on all of my drives, internal and external. Spend several hours a week doing defrags and registry cleanups.

    Any suggestions?

There are some really good video reviews on Newegg and Youtube that I went through... Took me about a week to decide on a drive. They are still fairly expensive. I am going to use my old drive to install things thing Office and other tools on. Don't really care about their speed to much.

I choose the 3K drive because it uses NAND memory. Which is suppose to be fast and take a lot of reads and writes. If a cell goes bad it just gets locked to read only and I shouldn't lose data.

Should be getting mine today. :)

New drive installed. Took like 10 minutes to do OS install. :D

Old boot up time = 1min 15 secs

I've not finished installing some of my stuff...

I always preferred solid state with guitar amplifiers... Is there a connection? WHO KNOWS?

Not bad. I'm at about a minute and a half on most days, and that's with strict control over what happens at startup.

Going to be really nice in a couple of years when the price goes down even more and speed goes up, would be really nice to pop in a couple of high performance 2TB SSD drives. Maybe even some PCI-Express flash storage for boot could also be a good option for booting. The less moving parts inside the case the better ( leaves fans for cooling unless liquid cooled ).

I just fetched the cheapest brand and model that I somewhat see as trustworthy, Samsung EVO. It was for my other PC which is in my bedroom to watch streams and movies. I didn't matter if it was the best or not, TLC or MLC etc. Just cheapskate and get in there and remove whatever that rattles in my case, yeah and removing that tinkerticks that goes on in there. D:

And it works excellent so far.

If I was going to buy a new performance SSD, I would probably go for the Sandisk Extreme II. Got an older Kingston HyperX drive in my main PC.

I don't worry too much about real harddrive failures since my computers are mostly always on. On and off, isn't good for their health to start with.
However most sparks fly around whenever the fiber connection goes down.

    Great!

I've not really put it through the paces yet. I know PlanetSide and how it effected my old drive but I've not played it yet. Have it installed just not played...

The PC I have now is the first one I built. I used my son as the technical expert and just put whatever he said to buy in the basket. He told me to get a SSD. This was over a year ago so they were still pricey, but I put in a 120 GB drive using my old 1 TB drive for most of my files. I struggle a bit keeping the SSD from getting overcrowded, but it has been worth it. I used to start my old PC and then go have a cup of coffee. Now I am up and running in no time.

Haha, start off right away with a coffee break from the machine.
They sure do fill up rather quickly with their tiny amount of space. I dump all my games and programs that are non-essential and eating too much space, on a RAID 0 array with two Samsung HDD.

With the next new system I'll probably go RAID 5. Just to get both the extra speed and some redundancy if one of the drives fail.

Wonder how many years it'll take before the mechanical drive is discontinued.

Kind of like CRT displays and TVs... Probably not for a long time though. Too many Enterprise systems still use them for inexpensive storage. So maybe 10 years?
